How Health Coaches Can Make Passive Income (Without Feeling Salesy)
As a health coach, your income often depends on how many clients you see. Which means when life gets busy – or summer hits – your cash flow can take a hit. But it doesn’t have to.
There’s one income stream I’ve used for years that helps me earn even when I’m on vacation: affiliate marketing.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is when you share a product you love with your audience and get paid when someone buys through your link. You don’t need inventory, and you don’t need to sell anything you don’t actually use. You don’t even really need a big audience.
You just need to be authentic.
That’s why I’ve partnered with Annmarie Skincare for over a decade. I love their products. I use them every day. And when someone asks, “What do you use on your skin?” – I give them my affiliate link.
Try Annmarie Skincare for just $21.99 at HealthCoachPower.com/skincare
Includes my go-to Aloe Herb Cleanser, Brighten Serum (free!), and more – plus $10 toward your next order. Free U.S. shipping.
Why This Works for Health Coaches
- It’s easy to integrate into your biz – just share when it makes sense
- It works with products you’re already recommending
- It’s an aligned, no-pressure way to earn extra cash
- It helps you support your audience without always selling your services
What to Look for in an Affiliate Program
- 15–25% commission (or more!)
- A dashboard so you can track clicks and earnings
- A solid product you actually stand behind
And if you’re not sure where to start? Just look at what products you’re already using and see if they have an affiliate program.
Bottom Line?
Affiliate marketing won’t replace your coaching biz, but it can absolutely help you fill in the income gaps without forcing you to hustle harder.

Michelle Leotta: Welcome to the Health Coach Power Community Podcast. I'm Michelle Leotta, ex corporate girl turned certified health coach with over 15 years of experience growing a successful online practice. I started out with no idea what I was getting into and learned a lot of lessons along the way that have given me the freedom to do the work I love and raised two boys as a single mom.
I created a Health Coach Power Community over a decade ago to make it easier for health coaches to build a career they love and make the world a better place.
Hey there, health coaches! One secret to a successful coaching practice is having multiple streams of income and passive income streams. They're even better. For many, many years now, I've used them to generate extra revenue without a lot of extra time or energy because who has that? So today I'm gonna share one of my favorites, so maybe you can give it a try.
This week's episode is a special re-release from the archives because I've recorded it a few summers ago, and lo and behold, here we are. It's summer time again. I'm gonna be on vacation. Maybe you are on vacation too. And this is exactly when past of income takes center stage. So I'm gonna be off in London with my kids.
Here is your chance to take advantage of my favorite form of passive income, which for health coaches, is affiliate marketing. And that is, by the way, totally different from multi-level marketing. So before you judge, take a listen, hear me out. I'm gonna talk all about one of my favorite brands to be an affiliate for, which is Annmarie Skincare.
I've been working with them. 15 years now, and they are a perfect example of how affiliate marketing can be done really, really well. I just love how they run their affiliate program. So you might wanna join too, I don't know. But first, you'll definitely wanna try their product. So there is a special trial offer.
I mentioned it in the episode, but that deal has changed since this originally aired. So here's the updated version. As of summer 2025, you're gonna go to HealthCoachPower.com/skincare and you'll get a Clean Beauty Trial plus Bright On Serum for just $21.99, and you're gonna get the Aloe Herb Cleanser, which I use every day, the anti-aging serum, which I also use, the anti-aging oil, which I use a free brighten serum. Oh my God. And a $10 coupon towards your next order. You're gonna get free shipping in the US, and global shipping options are also available. So this is a great way to just try it and see.
What do you think about these products? You might wanna become an affiliate too, like I said. If not, no worries at all. I just wanna give you an idea of what opportunities are out there, and I'll explain more in the episode. So let's dive in.
Sometimes when you're gonna sell a product, it can mean that you're investing upfront to buy the product or a certain amount of the product, or committing to sell a certain amount per month.
Now, for me personally. I've never been interested in getting that tied up with another business while also trying to run my own. Ah. But I love being able to refer friends and clients to the brands that I love and the things that I know they're gonna like, too. I'm doing it anyway. Right? People are always asking for recommendations.
I'm sure you're telling people about your favorite brand of certain kind of food or where you order your vegetables from, et cetera. So why not do that and earn a commission, especially if you can do it with no strings attached? So this is called affiliate marketing. This is totally different than multi-level marketing.
Just to be super duper clear, I'll explain with affiliate marketing, you are not joining a team. You will not have like an upline or downline or whatever they call it. You don't have to pay a dime to get started. You don't have to be constantly hawking a brand, just when it makes sense for you, and you don't have to be exclusive.
You could be an affiliate for lots of different brands. So today I wanna introduce you to my longest-running affiliate relationship. Tell you how it works, and I'm gonna be totally transparent. I get nothing, zip, zilch if you end up becoming an affiliate for them, too. That's not my motive today. There is no, like I said, there's no upline, downline thing going on here.
I do not get 10% of your sales or anything like that at all. I am sharing this opportunity because I think it's a smart one for health coaches. And also, I think it's a good product. I've been an affiliate with Annmarie Skincare for over a decade. Any Annmarie lovers in the house usually, We have a few.
It's a brand that help coaches really love. I've been using their products for over 10 years. I love them. But again, you can be an affiliate for lots of different brands out there. I've done this with, oh gosh, different products, different services. My water filter down in my kitchen right now. I used to be an affiliate for them. Right?
Stay with me today. Learn how the process works, and then what you can do is go apply it to the brands and the products that you love and you're always talking about, and you're always referring people to them anyway. Now, let's talk about affiliate programs in general. Every affiliate program is different.
The way that a company decides to offer an affiliate program varies from one company to the next. So what I share today is going to be specific to Annmarie Skincare, but I think it's gonna serve as a good example for how most good affiliate programs are run. So the very first step, we've already talked about it, you gotta love the product.
It's gotta be something that you know, you're already telling people about, right? We're not just trying to sell stuff for the sake of selling stuff, but if you're already telling your clients about a certain thing that you buy, that you love, that you've used, you know it's gonna help them too, right? Like that.
That's where you wanna be with this. You wanna be really aligned with your values. You like something, you're talking about it anyway. Done. Now, like I said, I've used Annmarie products for years now. If you like my skin, then maybe you wanna try them out too, so that's first. Second, you have to go sign up as an affiliate with each company.
When a brand offers an affiliate program like this. The link to join it's usually all the way down at the bottom of their website if you scroll all the way down. So if you go to that link that I gave you just a moment ago, that was HealthCoachPower.com/skincare, you'll see the offer that I talked about, but then scroll, scroll, scroll all the way to the footer, and you're gonna see a link that says affiliates.
So click there if you wanna become an affiliate, or when you decide if that's something you wanna do. And again, this is true for other brands as well. They usually have it in their footer. Not always, but usually when you go to Annmarie's affiliate page, it says that this is for anyone with a health, wellness, or beauty-related website and social media audience who's welcome to apply for an influencer account.
Some companies have different, you know, you have to meet certain qualifications, you have to have this many people, like all these requirements. So each brand, again, is going to vary. The point is they just wanna know that, A, you're not spammy and weird, and B, they wanna know that you have an audience.
If you don't have an audience, then you're not gonna be making too many referrals or too many sales, right? So they might ask about your mailing list. In this case, I don't see them giving a minimum. They're not saying you have to have X number of people on your mailing list in order to qualify. So even if your audience is small, I say, go ahead and apply anyway.
Now, once approved, and this usually takes a couple of days a week, something like that, you will get a unique link that tracks sales to your affiliate account. And that means when you tell someone about this brand that you love, you're going to give them your unique affiliate link. The price for the customer is always going to stay the same, but if they click your link, then you're going to earn a commission on that sale and for future sales.
We'll talk about that in a second, but if they do not click that link, then there's no way for the sale to be tracked to you. This is all getting recorded on the backend, all fancy internet computer style, so it's very important when you get that affiliate link to use it and make it easy for somebody to actually use.
Now, I'm making it easy. If you notice, because I've turned it into a pretty link, HealthCoachPower.com/skincare looks a whole lot better, and it's a whole lot easier to remember than like a long. You'll see these affiliate links. Sometimes they're very long. They have a lot of digits, a lot of numbers, and letters.
So one way of making it easy, this is a pro tip, has to turn it into a shorter, easier to link. Okay, there you go. Now, like I mentioned, you're gonna get a commission on your sales when you are referring people to another product. Um, with Annmarie, the commission is 25%. Sometimes you'll see 10%, sometimes it'll be more. Sometimes it's like 50%. And so the brands definitely vary on what the commission is. Also, sometimes you get the commission on anything that somebody purchases with your link within 30 days.
Sometimes it's 90 days. I'm noticing that Annmarie tracks orders actually for an entire six months. So after somebody use your link, you will continue to get credit for anything that they buy over those next six months. So that is pretty great. They are a fantastic affiliate program, and I'm saying that 'cause I've been involved with so many and I can compare one against the other.
For example, Andrea and Rachel are like. In charge of making sure the affiliate program runs really smoothly with Amory Skincare. And I've never known the team at any other company. I've never known that they even had a team like that. So here's what's gonna happen. You'll get an affiliate link for any, you know, whatever company you decide to be an affiliate with.
And with Annmarie Skincare and with many of these, they will have an affiliate dashboard where you can log i,n and that's cool because you can see, Hmm, is anybody buying? Does anybody care about this product? Sometimes I've been an affiliate for a product and then I go look, and like it got, oh, it got zero clicks.
Nobody cares. Nobody likes this. I remember I was trying to. Um, do something. Well, it's not exactly an affiliate program, but you know, those refer-a-friend programs. I was doing that with Misfits Market for a while, and even though I thought Misfits Market was like a really great deal on organic veggies, apparently, my audience at the time didn't because no lynxs, no sales.
I tried it a whole bunch of times and never went anywhere. So that's helpful because then you could go, okay, my people are not interested in this, but when I log into my Annmarie Skincare dashboard, I'm like, oh my goodness. Look at all these sales. Look at all these repeat customers. Look how many clicks that link got.
So I know there's interest, and it's something that's worth me putting my attention on. So it's very helpful when they have a dashboard like that. You can see where your earnings are. You can see when your next payout will be. While not every affiliate program offers a dashboard like that, I will tell you the good ones.
Do you know the good ones? The ones that have people who are actually running the program who you could ask questions to? The ones that feel like you're actually working with the company. You're not just like blindly spreading links around the internet. So there's that, and then what happens is once a month or whatever the schedule is. Again, this will vary from place to place. The company will send your commissions to you. Annmarie does it monthly. Any questions on what we've talked about so far? I know I have just like breezed through the entire like affiliate marketing process, but if I missed anything or if you have questions, just let me know in the chat, happy to answer.
Also, I'm curious if any of you guys have done anything like this before. The most common one that I hear about of course, is like Amazon affiliates. Now with Amazon affiliates, can you earn money? Yes. Like, if you're lucky, you might add up to like 10 or $15 ever because they pay out a teeny tiny, itty bitty percentage of any sales that come through your links.
But still, if you're going to be referring people to a book on Amazon, you tell all your clients about some product for their kitchen. Whatever, a spiralizer or a Vitamix, or actually, Vitamix probably has their own affiliate program. But anyway, why not use that affiliate link, even if you are just gonna make very small percentage of the sale on Amazon?
That's the most commonly known affiliate program. Amazon sells a lot, lot, lot, lot, lot, but the commission is very little. If you go direct to the companies, that's where you'll find percentages more like 15%, 20% or higher. Now, um. There's a really cool thing that I've only encountered with Annmarie as well, as well as the team, and this is that not only can I tell you about my favorite products and share my affiliate link, but they put together exclusive offers for their affiliate partners that convert really, really well.
Like, think about it, what's more likely to happen? You tell someone about your favorite skincare line and then they buy a whole bunch of full-size products at full price, maybe. I mean, that does happen, but what if instead you tell someone about your favorite skincare line and they buy a super no-brainer, low-cost trial package, and they love it so much that then they buy the full-size product afterwards?
To me, it's like, okay, we know we have a quality product, and this is smart, authentic, like transparent marketing. We want you to try it. If you love it, then go all in. Right? This is a company that I'm happy to be associated with. Sky is saying no affiliates for her so far are Annmarie's product certified gluten-free by chance that I do not know.
I will tell you this. If you go to the link that I sent you or that I mentioned earlier, rather, health coach power.com/skincare on that page, there's an area with the ingredients, so you can, like, they're very transparent about the ingredients in all of their products, so you can look there and. From there, if you still had a question, you should go ahead and email them, and they'll get back to you.
That's a good question. I'm sorry. I dunno the answer to it. Off chance, the deal I have for all you guys to check out these products to find out if they're gluten-free or not? No. But for real, read the ingredient list. You're gonna love it a lot. If you wanna try them out, you're gonna go to HealthCoachPower.com/skincare.
By the way, free shipping in the US and Canada. It includes their Aloe Herb Cleanser, which is super gentle. I use it all year long, their anti-aging serum. Now, I don't love the term anti-aging, so why don't we call it something like, yay, you're lucky enough to age serum for visibly firmer and tone skin, and also they're, yay.
You're lucky enough to age anti-aging oil, which is quick absorbing and weightless to use even in the summer. I love this stuff. And you're gonna be getting their sun love every day sunscreen. This is a non-nano zinc oxide formula. All of that to try out the pretty substantial size trial, so you get to use it more than once at HealthCoachPower.com/skincare.
Now, everything that I've shared about affiliate marketing today makes for a lovely bit of passive income. It is not as with like. Basically, everything in the health coaching world it's not a get-rich-quick scheme. I'm not here to tell you that you're gonna make six figures being an affiliate marketer, blah, blah, blah.
I don't think you want that kind of business anyway. But if you are consistently sharing your affiliate links when it makes sense to do so, and you're talking about the brands you love, it supports you as a health coach. It supports your clients, and yeah, it's gonna add to your bottom line. So I want you to look for affiliate programs available with your favorite beauty products, your favorite healthy food products, kitchen tools, you name it.
And let's have a great summer. I will see you guys next week. Thanks so much for being here.
